(from Goodreads)

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Breathless Trilogy comes the first novel in the Enforcers series—a bold new direction in erotic romance that explores the games men and women play, and the price they’re willing to pay for pleasure.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Coming May 2016: The Enforcers Book II: Dominated

Maya Banks is one of my go-to authors, and I was thrilled to be offered a chance to read Mastered in exchange for an honest review.  If you've ever read any books by Maya Banks, and know her style, you're going to love this book.

The best word to really describe Evangeline is innocent.  She's poor, loyal, loving, and extremely innocent.  She moved to the city to get money so that she could send it to her family back home.  She keeps almost nothing for herself and lives to serve others.  Other than one boyfriend, who really hurt Evangeline, she is a complete innocent.

Drake has absolutely no innocence left.  He's rich, powerful, sure of himself, and Dominant with a capital D.  He takes what he wants.  Nothing stops him.  People don't say no to him.

Drake is the owner a club (among many other businesses).  Evangeline's friends get a VIP pass and send her to the club.  The club is for the rich and powerful.  Evangeline is immediately out of place.  She wouldn't even get through the door without the VIP pass.  She's too innocent.  While at the club Evangeline is the cause of a scene (I'll leave you to read what happens) and Drake spots her.  He has her taken up to his office, never having had a woman in his office, and it's all over for Evangeline then.

Once Drake sees her and takes an interest any protests Evangeline might have (for the most part she doesn't) are moot.  He gives her pleasure she's never had before and takes over her life.  Within a day she is living in his apartment and being cared for by Drake.

Evangeline gradually learns to trust Drake and falls in love.  She gradually wins over each and every one of Drake's men.  She's so sweet and innocent that they can't resist her.  Drake, too, loves Evangeline.  He doesn't say it, but he shows it.  He's Dominant and demanding, but he truly cares.  He doesn't want her to be hurt so he doesn't tell her everything about him.  He holds back.

At the end of the book Drake is absolutely horrible to Evangeline (for reasons I you'll have to read about).  She is destroyed and the book ends in a horrible cliffhanger.

I loved Drake and Evangeline's story.  Even though Drake is so dominating and commanding I loved him.  If you know anything about me you'll know that I love alpha men and Drake is all alpha.  Evangeline is a little too innocent and unrealistic, but it works for the story.  She has to be for Drake to keep all his secrets.

There is only one scene in the book that really bothered me.  I won't give any spoilers, but that's the reason I'm giving Mastered FOUR STARS!

I really can't wait for the conclusion to Drake and Evangeline's story!

Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times, #1 USA Today and international bestselling author of over 50 novels. A wife and mother of three, she lives in Texas.
