She was thankful now that had never come to pass. Starting life over was challenge enough for her without tossing a child into the tempest.
More laughter carried on the wind, only this time the sound of Sky’s deep, silky baritone slid over her flesh like thick, hot wax. With a scowl, Kaitlin turned away. She didn’t want to be reminded of what she’d foolishly thrown away…didn’t need the validation that his life was perfect while hers was nothing but a clustered mess. But most of all, she didn’t want to think about Sky using his capable hands or his spine-melting sexual skills on another woman.
“You had your chance and blew it,” she reminded herself bitterly. “You knew he wasn’t going to curl up and stop living without you, and he didn’t.”
I've read a lot of Jenna Jacob's books and this book is very different. It's not BDSM. It's vanilla, but it's still very steamy. Sky of Dreams is the first book in Jenna's new Passionate Hearts series. It is the story of Sky and Kaitlin. Sky and Kaitlin grew up together. They lived next door, Sky with his mother, and Kaitlin with her Grandmother. They played together as children and it eventually developed into more. They fell in love. Then Kaitlin left.
Kaitlin leaving hurt Sky. Now she's back. She's fleeing from a very abusive relationship. She's hiding and she's scared; she finds it hard to trust.
Sky has his own trust issues. He's been hurt, both by Kaitlin's leaving and by a subsequent relationship where he was betrayed. But in order to help heal Kaitlin, Sky has to put his own trust issues behind. She's almost broken and needs his love.
From the moment the two reunite its powerful, one can feel that the live they once had is still there. She is scared and he is hurt, but you know they still care. They quickly become close and Sky vows to help her.
I really loved Sky's protectiveness. He doesn't let anything happen to Kaitlin or any of those that he loves. He may not be a Dom, but he is alpha protective. He's ex military and has all the training he needs to protect. He does. Kaitlin is destroyed by her ex, but she overcomes her fear. She could just quake In a corner and hide, but she doesn't. When she feels that Sky is in danger she stands up for herself.
It was wonderful to watch Sky help Kaitlin to grow. I look forward to the rest of this series and give Sky of Dreams FOUR STARS!!!
