It can be read as a standalone since it's the first book, but the other two books will probably have more background information that will relate back to this book. While I've read quite a bit by Alta Hensley this is the first book that I've read by Maggie Ryan. After reading this I will be looking for more of her books.

"Maddox" is the story of Maddox (no surprise there) and Adira. Maddox is a cowboy and a Dom and a little bit of a military type. He's not military but he and his family operate a business of "saving" people. He's strong. He's sexy. He's Dominant. And he's capable (not sure if that's the right word, but he knows what he's doing and how to do it). Adira is a woman from a rich Arabic family in Dubai. She is educated, but she has always been pampered and kept from harm. When she enters Maddox' world after a personal tragedy, it is like nothing she's experienced before.

I really liked Maddox (and his family). I also liked Adira. Their relationship was a bit BDSM, a bit Domestic Discipline so I found it quite hot. I am interested to read more about Maddox' brothers in the next few books.

The only thing I had a problem with was that I found the book very slow to get into. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and if I was reading it without that promise I might not have continued reading the book. I had a really hard time getting into the book and had to put it down several times. But once I did get into the "meat" of the story I liked it alot. So be aware that it might take a while to get into the story, but once you do it's definitely an entertaining one.

I give "Maddox" Three and a half stars!
