INSIDIOUS by Aleatha Romig - #ARC #BOOKREVIEW #FIVESTARS @inkslingerpr @aleatharomig

Title: Insidious
Series: Tales from the Dark Side (Standalone)
Author: Aleatha Romig
Release Date: October 21, 2014

Dark desires…Deadly secrets…Devious deceptions…Nothing is exactly as it seems in INSIDIOUS, the new erotic thriller from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

When a powerful man is willing to risk everything for his own satisfaction, only one woman can beat him at his own game: his wife. Or so she thinks…

“Let’s start with you calling me Stewart. Formalities seem unnecessary.”

Stewart Harrington is rich, gorgeous, and one of the most powerful men in Miami. He always gets what he wants. Anything is available to him for the right price.

Even me.

Being the wife of a mogul comes with all the perks, but being Mrs. Stewart Harrington comes with a few special requirements. I’ve learned to keep a part of myself locked away as my husband watches me submit to his needs. But the more he demands of me, the more beguiled he becomes and that’s to my advantage. So I keep fulfilling his fantasies and following his rules because he doesn’t know that what he’s playing is really my game. And winning is everything, right?

Insidious is a stand-alone novel and the first Tales from the Dark Side title. Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only.

I began to turn toward him, to stop the uneasy feelings his proximity spurred, when he stopped me: his tenor left no room for compromise.

“Don’t turn around.”

Involuntarily, I shuddered at his command.

“Put your hands on the window. Let me see those pretty little fingers.”

I’d never heard a man speak with such unquestioning authority. Obediently, I splayed my fingers on the cool glass before me, thankful I’d left my purse on the sofa. Caging me within his arms, his hands came to rest beside mine. The contrast in size was startling as his deep voice exhaled breathily onto my neck.

His lips brushed my neck. Instead of fighting, I tilted my head back against his chest to give him better access.

Sighing, he moaned. “Damn, girl, you’re sexier up close than I ever imagined. Do you know how hot that answer was?” His fingers that had just painfully twisted my hard nub caressed my same breast. Suddenly, his touch was warm and electric. “You may be frightened, but it’s not of me, it’s of what you’re feeling. Your nipples are telling me you’re feeling the same thing I am. They’re saying that you like this.” With both hands on my breasts, he’d lowered the top of my dress fully exposing me to the window. Thankfully, we were stories above the city. “Do you know how else I know you’re aroused?”

Forming words had become increasingly difficult. Therefore, I shook my head.

“I smell it, and darling, you smell fantastic. I bet you taste fantastic.”

Oh My God!  This book was a complete roller coaster from beginning to end.  It wasn't a quick read, but I couldn't put it down.  I literally stayed up all night to finish the book and see where and how it would end.  It makes you question who is good and who is bad throughout the whole book.  From page 1 I was enthralled.

Young, eighteen year old Victoria is manipulated by her family into marrying a wealthy, but much older man.  Even though she is nervous and out of her league, Victoria is attracted to Stewart from the beginning.  She's not completely innocent and naive, but he's much older and therefore, much more experienced.  He likes control and he knows what he wants.  He agrees to help out her family, but in return, he demands marriage and that she sign a contract.

After signing a contract that didn't make much sense to a young girl and agreeing to marry Stewart, Victoria finds out that Stewart's desires and pleasures are a lot kinkier than she had thought.  But she can't back out.  She is put through hell, but in the end she wins over Stewart.

Or does she?  There are so many twists and turns in this book.  I can't say much more about the plot without giving away some of the many plot turns.

Victoria is naive, but she learns quickly.  By the end she's no longer innocent and is just as ruthless as her husband.  She learns to take what she wants and what she feels entitled to.

Stewart is an interesting character.  At times I found him sexy; other times I found him disgusting; and still other times I felt pity for him.  I'm still reeling now and not quite sure what I feel at the end.

I will say that in addition to Stewart, there are other men who were sexy and alpha (my favorite traits).

If you are looking for a mind-bending book, then pick up Insidious.  You won't regret it.  I give Insidious FIVE STARS!

  Servicing the Target
Title: Servicing the Target
Series: Masters of the Shadowlands #10
Author: Cherise Sinclair
Release Date: July 28, 2015

A discharged Army Ranger, Ben considers his job as a BDSM club security guard to be an excellent hobby. He’s never been tempted to join in. But everything changes when the notorious Mistress Anne inadvertently reveals the caring heart concealed beneath her Domme armor.

Now, he’s set his sights on the beautiful Shadowlands Mistress. Maybe he’d considered himself vanilla, but she can put her stiletto on his chest any day, any time. He’ll trust her delicate hands to hold his heart. And if she wants to whip his ass on the way to an outstanding climax, he’s just fine with that too.

Sure, he knows she likes “pretty boy” slaves. And he’s older. Craggy and rough. And six-five. Minor hindrances. The mission is a go.

Lifting her sax, she wetted the reed and tested a wandering set of notes. With one hip on the railing, she let her internal playlist scroll and found herself playing “As Time Goes By.” Like a soft rain, the notes spilled over her deck and joined with the evening. A slow song, but not sad. It reminded her that the fundamentals of life, living and loving and dying, held the same from generation to generation.
That life could change for the better.
She was changing, as was her world. Or maybe she should call it growing, rather than changing.
As the tune went into the chorus, she heard Ben say something to Bronx in the kitchen. The dog whined an answer, and Ben’s big laugh rumbled out.
He was quite a guy. He’d been so careful with her this afternoon. Not pushing, but not stopping before he’d made his point.
Sometimes his internal strength was a bit disconcerting. All her slaves had wanted her in charge, wanted her to take control of everything. But Ben didn’t need her guidance.
At the same time, he wouldn’t fall apart if she showed any weakness, and because of that, she could relax around him.
But his obstinate need to be tough—to hide any weakness—was a problem. She should have noticed he was having flashbacks. But now she knew, and she could lead him to talk about his past. She’d pamper him up, keep him close, and ensure he got his sleep. He said he slept better at her house. With her.
He liked being with her. The realization was…amazing. Overwhelming.
She felt the same and more. He’d filled her life. Warmed it.
With a slow flourish, she ended the song and started another. One that had been growing in her heart over the past week, with the knowledge, the worry, the awe.“When I Fall in Love.” The music flowed, the ache of her soul merging with the notes.
She’d wanted to run. To push him away. And she hadn’t.
Ben, I love you.
The knowledge was terrifying and wonderful. For a little while yet, she’d savor the gift, and then she’d share.
Light washed out over the deck, and he stood there, filling the doorway as completely as he did her heart. “I was listening to you play.”
His golden-brown eyes held hers as he slowly smiled. “Mistress, may this submissive haul you off to bed?”

STT - Teaser 1

STT Teaser 2

While I read quite a few BDSM books and love them, I generally don't read a lot of books focusing on female Dommes.  Sure, I know they are there, and they are frequently background characters in the books I read, but I don't see them as the "heroine" in a lot of what I read.  While I'm not in a traditional BDSM relationship I consider myself fairly submissive.  So I can't relate to a Dominant woman too well.  But I've read and really loved all of the Masters of the Shadowlands books and I've loved Ben since the first book so I wanted to try this one.

At first I did have a tough time relating to Anne, but she quickly won me over.  I was so happy for Ben to finally get his story and explore his kink that I quickly got engrossed in the story.  I think part of what I was worried about was that Ben would be wimpy.  He's not.  He may be submissive, but he's still all alpha male.  His best friends are all the Shadowlands Masters.  He's extremely protective and very sexy.

Mistress Anne is definitely a Domme.  She likes control and she likes to be in charge.  After growing up with two brothers she knows how to handle herself around men.  She's strong and fit.  But she's also very feminine.  She may like her control, but she is sweet and sensitive too.  She's had to fight all her life to be accepted (by her family and her profession).  In Shadowlands she's accepted by all - Dominant and submissive.

In the other Shadowlands books both Anne and Ben have had minor roles, but here we really meet them both.  We learn where they come from and why they are the way they are.  We also finally learn that Ben, who has always said he's vanilla, isn't completely.  He has a hard time giving up control, but he does when he's amazing.

I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone who loves BDSM.  Even if you're like me and like the male Doms I guarantee you'll change your mind for Mistress Anne and Ben.  They're perfect and once again Cherise Sinclair has a hit on her hands.

I give SERVICING THE TARGET FIVE STARS!

Zachary studied the man sitting across from him. Muscles slightly tensed, eyes level but wary, face blanked of expression. Protective posture. Protective thoughts. For Anne.

Of course.

Benjamin had grown up on New York streets, caring for his mother and sisters. He’d joined the U.S. Army to protect his country and moved into the Rangers to do an even better job. Anne might be the Dominant, but this soldier operated under his own priorities.

Zachary did the same.

“Should I sign you up for membership in the club?” he asked in a flanking maneuver.

“Sh*t.” Benjamin choked on his beer and coughed. “Ah, no. That’d be like pulling the trigger before aiming.”

“I see.” What he could also see was that Benjamin had, indeed, enjoyed the session and wanted more.

As the Domme, Anne had the next move. She’d apparently not made one.

These weren’t two people he’d have predicted to be a good match, but their scene on Saturday had held tremendous energy and chemistry. They’d been caught up in each other.

Normally a good thing. But…

Z regarded his glass, seeing the reflection of the lightning in the amber liquid. Although the scene in the Shadowlands had shown that Benjamin was sexually submissive, he didn’t possess a slave’s mentality, and it was doubtful the man could adapt to that lifestyle.
He doubted if Anne would even allow Ben to try.

“Spit it out, Z.”

Z looked up. “Mistress Anne is one of the finest Dominants I’ve ever met. She is also exceptionally reserved. Her slaves don’t live with her. Her control when she is with them is absolute. She picks her ‘boys’ carefully and they worship the ground she walks on. I’m not sure—”

“I’m not her type. I knew that.” Ben’s jaw was firm. “And you delivered your warning.”

“I’m not finished. If a submissive isn’t her slave, she might play with him in the club. Once or twice.”

“Right.”

“She’s also a sadist.”

“I do know that”—Ben held up his hand—“and I know she went lightly on me last week.”

BIND ME BEFORE YOU GO by Harper Kincaid - #BLOGTOUR #BOOKREVIEW #GIVEAWAY

Title: BIND ME BEFORE YOU GO
Author: Harper Kincaid
Release Date: July 21, 2015
Publisher: Entangled Publishing

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

His heart is bound tighter than the bondage he craves...

Determined to put her past behind her, Cassidy Peyton moves to the Big Apple. But New York has a few dark secrets of its own, including Serve, an exclusive BDSM club. It's a place she isn't sure she's ready for, until she sees him watching her. Hot. Intent. Knowing. With eyes that leave her stomach tied in knots, because the loneliness he's trying to hide matches her own.

Security expert David Cavill has more secrets than any man should. Secrets that forever shut down any possibility of love, marriage, or family. Yet Cassidy draws him in, an intoxicating combination of strength, candor, and sensuality that David can't resist. But as their bond deepens, Cassidy must decide if she can love a man whose heart is bound tighter than the form of bondage he craves...

As a favor to her roommate, Allie,  Cassidy agrees to go with her to Serve, a local BDSM club.  When Allie hooks up with the manager, his friend David agrees to "babysit" Cassidy.  The attraction is immediate on both sides. Cassidy is hot, quirky, and very snarky and sarcastic.  David is immediately smitten.  David is all alpha, hot, and sexy, but also protective and cautious.

Within a few hours of meeting Cassidy and David are back at Cassidy's place and David is all about pleasing Cassidy.  He then explains that he is into Shibari and can only be with her for 2 weeks.  He's not looking for anything long term.

After Cassidy agrees to David's terms, David slowly introduces Cassidy to BDSM and shibari. But both are careful to make sure that they don't fall.  Of course, that doesn't happen.  Cassidy falls for David. David doesn't want that. He's been burnt in the past because of family issues and he's afraid for anyone to see his family.  He won't open up.

This book was fast paced and a quick, easy Summer read.  At times it was almost too fast paced.  We met Cassidy and David and they were definitely developed, but the relationship seemed a little fast.  Overall though I really liked all the characters, the story, and the writing.  I haven't read any other books in the Serve series or any other Harper Kincaid books, but I definitely will be looking for more of both.

I give Bind Me Before You Go 3.5 STARS!

A woman with the heart of a revolutionary,
The mind of a pragmatist,
And the inappropriate humor of your tipsy BFF...

Born in California and raised in South Florida, I've moved around like a gypsy with a bounty on my head ever since. Along the way, I've worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, an art teacher, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts and follow-through to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I am tickled pink with glitter over this good piece of fortune.

What else? Hmm...I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it's slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds),and making those close to me laugh 'til they snort. I'm a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil' town, Vienna, Virginia. I totally love hearing from readers so stalk me via social media or email me at HarperKincaid26@gmail.com!
